The final Bring It On Scatter Rally in Memory of Chris Webber brought out a record 17 crews, all competing for the coveted Chris Webber Memorial Shield.
A mix of young and old met and signed on at The New Inn, St Asaph to start the task of finding clues spread all over the 116 OS Map. The youngest navigator, Joe Thomas from Llanrhaedr is just 12 years old and we had a Junior Crew (under 21) of Will Hughes and Deio Hughes, both from Anglesey. Due to the generosity of the Webber Family, each crew member received a fabulous BIO Scatter key ring in memory of Chris Webber.
The crews set off enthusiastically having planned which of the points they were going to target, our faithful and patient Marshals waiting for them to arrive at points as far afield as Moel Famau and Llanrwst.
They all arrived back in time for the 9.30pm deadline, the Results Team started the hard work of figuring out who had scored what and the eventual winners whilst the Crews tucked in to a hearty meal of stew or chilli and rice.
Before the Results and Prize Giving a marathon raffle draw took place for at least 30 generously donated prizes and it looked s though most people in the room went home with something. Thanks to all our generous raffle donors and tickets purchased we raised £136.00 for the Club Charity – The North Wales Cancer Appeal. Add this to the proceeds from the overall event, the total donated to the Charity rose to a fantastic £426.00 which will go to help cancer patients from all over North Wales.
As we worked through the overall Results, the scores climbed higher and higher with the eventual overall winner with a score of 60 Points Expert Crew, Mike Webber and Pete Phennah in Petes’ Silver BMW X 5. Mike was determined to do well in this the final BIO Scatter in Memory of his Dad and also picked up the best 116 Car Club Member finish – so a double triumph.
An emotional Shelley Webber presented the Trophies to Mike and Pete and then announced that Mike wasn’t getting the main Shield – instead two replicas were presented to the winning crew and Shelley requested the main shield be awarded to Barry Green for his efforts over 10 years in arranging the BIO Scatter event.
Watch the web site for the next replacement to the BIO Scatter, as the event has been so successful we have some ideas to replace with a similar event in 2020 with a twist!
1st Overall – Mike Webber & Pete Phennah – 60 Points
2nd Overall – Mike Vokes & Matthew Vokes – 47.5 Points
3rd Overall – Steve Southall & Richard Bestwick – 43 Points
